The Need for Educational Guidance


There are a number of wastage and stagnation in the field of education. The number of failures are increasing. The students become unsuccessful or unable to progress  for their various interests , abilities and capabilities. Students failing to co-ordinate school and life. Under such circumstances the need for Educational Guidance is in great demand. Different scholars have defined Educational Guidance ,as the following manner:

Carter V Good said that, " Educational Guidance is concerned principally with matters relating to schools and students, courses, curriculum and social life, rather than vocational, social or personal matters,"

Crow and Drow said ,"Guidance is assistance made available by properly and qualified trained men or women to an individual of any age to help manage his own life activities, develop his point of view, make his own decisions and carry his own burdens"Educational Guidance is related to all those problems which a child faces in Educational field. It is related to school and School related activities. It guides students in selecting subjects and in the development of proper programmes.
   Every child should get proper education. It is not for any specific group.  A child can become able , intelligent and successful only with the help of education. 

* Choice of Curriculum:  All types of curriculum are not suitable for every child. Curriculum need to be selected  as per liking and interest. Educational guidance helps in this direction.

*Wastage and Stagnation: A lot of students remain unsuccessful in education. Some leave education in between. Many students become criminals , delinquent, problem child etc. Thus energy, time and money  are wasted. Educational guidance helps in controlling this wastage and Stagnation.

*Preparation for Future Vocation: Every child has to follow some profession to earn his livelihood. He has to select a suitable curriculum for the same,it is possible only when Educational guidance is provided to him.
*Individual Differences:  Students are not similar, they have physical, mental and emotional differences. Educational guidance helps them in selecting curriculum according to their choices.
*Organizing Curricular Activities: Educational guidance plays a very significant role in organising curricular activities in the school. These activities help in the all-round development of personality. They need proper direction and guidance. 

*Adjustment of Students in School or College Environment:
       Scholars opined that if students are not helped to adjust in the school or college environment,then it will hamper their growth. If they are not treated well then also it is harmful. Thus they need proper direction and guidance.

*Unsatisfactory Progress and Undesirable Behaviour: Sometimes it becomes clear that the progress of the students is not satisfactory and he looks so sad towards a subject. Under such condition he needs educational guidance.
