What are the Five Major Characteristics of Good Memory


Memory is a mental process which is present in every individual. When he sees any object,thing or place,then its engrams is created in his/her mind. These along with learnt things, is called memory.
Different scholars have defined memory in different ways:
According to Magdugal, memory means
"imagining about past experiences"
According to  J.S.Rass "Memory is  new experience which is based on past experiences"
Stout defined Memory as"  an ideal recapitulation"

Woodworth called memory as "The straight use of learnt experiences"
The process of memory follows for stages such as learning, retention, recall and recognition.
The five Major characteristics which form the good memory of any individual are:


(1) Rapidity in Learning:
The first characteristics of good memory is that every fact is learnt easily and rapidly. Quiet contrary if the student takes time in Learning then memory is not good.

(2) Stability of Retention:
           Good memory has stability of retention. If the student remembers the learnt things for a longer time ,  then he has a good memory and vice versa.

(3) Rapidity in Recall:
Good memory has rapidity in recalling.
If the student recalls the learnt matter rapidly, Then he has a good memory.

(4) Serviceableness:
 The fourth characteristics of good memory the Serviceableness. Some students remember everything but when required they failed to recall.

(5) Forgetting Irrelevant Things:
A student who has good memory, should forget irrelevant things. In life's struggle there is no need to remember sad incidents.
